Intro - September 6

In the last 10 days I have started and quit no fewer than 5 different MMORPGs. The reason: by and large something about them always seems to piss me off. Whether it's the fact that you have to grind like a porn star on holiday just to level up (a la Wonderland Online) or whether it's the fact you just plain get killed too easy (a la Fiesta and Grand Fantasia),something always sticks in my craw. And when I stopped to consider for a moment,it hit me. The thing that pisses me off most about games is: There's No Balance!!! All the games I've played,I noticed one common similarity. No matter how you play,no matter what type of character you choose,it always comes down to the fact that there must be a trade-off of some kind. For example, even though it is cliched I always choose to be a fighter type in games, though on rare occasions I will try my hand at a different archetype before finally going back to what I know best. Furthermore,in games, for whatever reason,I generally prefer to go one-handed swords and shields as a rule. The trade-off to this style of armament is that you gain some defense, but lose a lot of power. No matter what game you play, swords are always considered the weakest weapon. The reasoning behind this escapes me. While everyone else with their big honking axes, maces, clubs and spears the size of lampposts are mowing down enemies left and right,it takes me 3,4 and sometimes 5 times longer than everyone else to do so. Suffice it to say,I die more than a few times during the course of gameplay which further adds to my frustration. I mean,it's just so unfair that games are biased this way, that choosing to use one-hand weapons and shields automatically makes you disadvantaged. And if you asked any of the yahoos that design these games, they'd find some way of justifying this imbalance by quoting a bunch of numbers and mathematical theorems at you which in no way begin to answer the question. Maybe there never will be such a thing as a "balanced" game. Maybe I'm taking this way more seriously than I should. All I know is,I used to have more fun escaping to worlds of fantasy and adventure, hunting treasure and fame while laying waste to scores of goblins, orcs and other assorted nasties. But lately, all the fun gets sucked out even before I hit the 'login' button. And when it gets that bad,why bother anymore?

Hey all members of the gallery! (Including new ones, of course.) Aragorn4000 is back in the gallery after 2 months of non-stop school work and such! I'm still a bit busy though, but I'll be able to post again and again in a few weeks. I'll be able to validate more images than ever before when I was busy. Will also be able to start posting on threads again to get an update on what I've missed over time.
