So, I have decided that I'm going to give it a try at installing Linux (Yellow Dog Linux) on my PS3.

I've been wanting to buy a bigger hard drive for my PS3 for some time now, since I bought the 40Gb system, and I decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to get it and try out Linux.

I will use this post to keep you up to date with my progress and let you know about my experience with it.

So far, I have downloaded the Install DvD for Yellow Dog Linux (YDL), which was 3.7 Gb... and I just ordered a 2.5" 160Gb SATA-150 hard drive for my PS3.
Also, I was able to clear one of my older 3.5" hard drives, so I can format it as FAT32 (only format recognizable by all systems), and be able to back-up all my game saves and information.

I will probably go ahead and do that today.

Once I receive the hard drive, I will be all ready to go...

One thing that I need to check out, and maybe some of you know is if YDL supports the use of a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
I do not have either at the moment, but since my couch is several feet away from the TV, I dont' want to running any cables all over the floor.

I will use USB to begin with, just in case I end up not using Linux at all, and that way I won't throw away all that money, but if I use it often, bluetooth would be the way to go, if available.

Once I complete the installation and play with YDL for a while I'll make a blog post with a summary of the experience.

Well I just got a PS3 a few weeks ago (Christmas) and I got the YDL on a disk and ready to go but what do you do once you get to that black screen with all the information on the programs and such? It looked like a Command Prompt but I didnt know what to do so I just restored my PS3 and started playing COD4. (Thank god I backed up all my data or I would have been f*&ked.)

I never got to installing YDL, that's why I never updated this post....

There were a couple things that did not convince totally from the process. First of all, you need to change the booting access every time you want to change from YDL to the PS3. Second of all, it didn't say anywhere if I could use my Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse for installation. Since I don't have a USB keyboard, I don't want to start installing to find out that I can't continue because the Bluetooth is not detected...

I might try out some other time, but since I bought my Lenovo S10 I don't need to have an OS on my PS3.... I know I wouldn't use it at all...

They also upgraded the Flash plugin for the PS3 browser, so I can watch videos and do some basic surfing, which is why I would do anyways on it...

Youtube on the PS3, what will they think of next.

I haven't tried YouTube on the PS3, but I'm pretty sure it works... I've watched online Football games, when they are not on my local programming, so I know that Flash Videos work....

I would want for them to include more video plugins... since some formats still don't work. However, I'm pretty happy with what I can do!

The good think is that I bought the bluetooth keyboard, so I don't have to use the controller to type in... it is so slow...

I just saw this post on the PSN Blog and it sounds very good!!
It basically talks about a new YouTube interface for the PS3 and the Wii, more streamlined and free of all the ads and extra stuff...
