What happens if Zombies do break into your hide out? If there is only one way out and one way in then you are boned! You need to prepare and be ready for the worst case senario! It would be better to have a building with many exits, sure it may be harder to defend, but if you keep regulated checks on the blockades then you should be fine, and even if they break into one (depending on where it is in the building) you could seal off that room, and begin to watch the new blockade. And in the worst case, you will be driven to the roof. Make sure the building has a flat roof, so you can set up tents and other structures to defend you from the elements. Then, even if thezombies break onto the roof, make sure you have a make-shift zipline to the streets, or even just a fireladder, and position vehicals filled with a small amount of supplies (preferably a week or 2s worth) and a tank full of gas near these escapes. The more zombies in your hideout means less in the streets. An escape from the roof should be well thought out and one that cannot fall apart easily. These sturctures should be in the progress of being defended and zombie proofed at the first outbreak, even if it is in another counrty, this way you have time to build the defences and think out escapes.
Knifes you don't need to reload, so always have one with you at all times, maybe even a few incase you can't quickly pull the blade from the zombie's neck or skull fast enough. Remember, the only way to kill a zombie is to kill the brain (depending on the virus, but Salenum is the most common) Don't use automatic firearms if you have a choice. You need every bullet you can find and if you panic and go full auto, you waste much more ammo on needless shots and misses then you do if you have a semi-automatic rifle or handgun. This way, you can regulate your shots, and if you panic, you will not waste as much ammo. Handguns are one of the most common weapons around, so they are easy to find ammo for, and easy to carry, so handguns are prefered because if you can get down shooting two at a time at separate targets, you can take down twice as many zombies. Shotguns are unneeded overkill and if it is not automatic, then it takes precious seconds to feed another shell into the chamber. Close to medium rages weapons with high mag caps and rate of fire (without being fully automatic) are the most prefered, if you are going out of your way to snipe a zombie in the middle of the street when you are a good 300 yards away, you are wasting ammo and bringing attention to yourself. Only shoot zombies if you or someone else are in danger, of the virus is salenum, then it will take a good few years for the infection to stop spreading (due to no one for te virus to spread to), then another few months for the bodies to decompose past being able to move, so wasting your ammo on a doomed zombie that isnt trying to kill you is a waste.
Survival is the priority. Who you have with you isn't too important. Just makes sure that you don't have someone who would end up snapping and wanting to end his life and take a few of you with him. Make sure your survivors are in good hopes, and make sure atleast 2 people are checking the baracades or perimiter, the chance of both of them being equaly crazy is doubtfull. If worst comes to shove, sometimes using one bullet can save you hundreds and even yours or a few of your comrades lives. But survival is everything! Once you have survived the infeciton, survived the onslaught, and then survived to see the end of the infeciton, then the next priority is to find more reasources for surviving, then repopulating the world. Most likely others have survived the infection around the world, so if you are with a group of only guys or girls, then it should be alright. Find more survivors, and rebuild. But again, this is all irrelevant to survival. Do not worry about the future during the infection, all the matters is how to survive.
Never give up. There might be a last second way to survive if you are cornered, just calm down and think.
